Today's construction industry is fast-paced and exciting. Develop a solid understanding of the fundamentals of construction, including technical knowledge, project management and common challenges in performing leadership roles in the construction industry. This program was built and designed to be useful for all levels of construction employees – from entry level workers to junior and intermediate project management supervisors. This program will be of particular interest to project managers, superintendents, estimators and owners of construction companies.

 

The Construction Technology program provides learners the opportunity to acquire fundamental knowledge and skills in preparation for a career in building construction and associated businesses. Principles involving new construction, remodeling, renovation and repair work for residential and non-residential construction are presented. Program graduates find employment opportunities in skilled trades, building construction supply, general contracting, subcontracting, and building construction industry regulation. Often graduates obtain appropriate licenses and become self-employed contractors.

This program will give you the knowledge and skills necessary for job success either as a self-employed business person, or as an employee in home improvement centers, plumbing, survey and missionary contractor, civil-construction trades, or many other phases within the construction industry.

 

Department Mission

 

The Construction Technology program prepares students for technical careers in the building, foundation, bridge, transportation facilities, nuclear and conventional power plants, construction industry. These careers may be in new construction, restoration, renovation, remodeling, additions or services in residential, commercial, institutional or industrial construction market areas with an emphasis on sustainability. This program will be of particular interest to sub assistant engineer, site engineer, surveyor, project managers, superintendents, estimators and owners of construction companies. The curriculum is focused on meeting industry standards for producing competent graduates.

 

Program Educational Objective

 

  • Graduates with a board and fundamental technical base will be able to enter the professional construction engineering work force either with a BS to develop specialized expertise by way of apprenticeship or through the increasingly common path of a specialized MS.
  • Graduates with a firm foundation in the basic math, science and engineering science which underlie all technological development will be well equipped to adapt to changing technology in the profession.
  • Graduates equipped with a broad technical background will be able to follow other technical or non-technical career paths.
  • Graduates with practice their professional ethics, as well as with awareness of societal issues.
